Work Experience :
After six years in a boutique law firm in New York City, Wayne co-founded DeMont & Breyer (precursor firm to Kaplan Breyer Schwarz, LLP) in 1997. In his over 20 years in practice, Wayne has been involved in patent litigation, counseled start-ups and established companies on IP strategy and patent-portfolio development, prepared infringement/validity and freedom-to-operate opinions, conducted due-diligence evaluations, drafted and negotiated technology licenses, and negotiated the sale of patents.
Wayne has a keen interest in science and technology and particularly enjoys the challenges of patent prosecution, which include understanding complex technologies, presenting such technologies in a clear and concise fashion in patent applications, and advocating for his clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has written and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in mechanical/electromechanical arts, small technologies, materials science, optics, and the chemical arts.
Before earning his law degree, Wayne worked as an engineer involved in the design, engineering, and on-site troubleshooting of catalytic processes for the refining and petrochemical industries.
