Work Experience :

The core of Stuart’s legal work is patent prosecution. In addition to having represented a number of Fortune 500 companies, Stuart has also developed patent portfolios for various high technology start-ups. Stuart has also performed freedom-to-operate and clearance studies and has guided design-around efforts that often begin at the preliminary stages of project development.

Stuart has authored patent applications in technology disciplines that include optics (including photonics and optical communications), networking and Internet technologies (including wired and wireless communications), semiconductors, cryptography, digital video processing and distribution, medical devices and emerging technologies including blockchains and machine learning techniques.

Prior to joining Kaplan Breyer Schwarz in 2023, Stuart was a partner in Mayer & Williams PC, which he co-founded in 1997. Earlier, Stuart was a patent attorney at AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he prosecuted patent applications, conducted infringement and validity studies, and counseled clients on transactional matters. He also coordinated the patent agendas for a number of research departments and supervised the preparation and prosecution of applications by outside counsel. Stuart began his legal career as a patent agent with the intellectual property law firm of Kenyon & Kenyon.
