Work Experience :
Jeff has litigated patent and other intellectual property cases in both trial and appellate courts throughout the country, representing both patent and other intellectual property owners and accused infringers. Among Jeff’s recent litigation successes are a settlement of multiple nine figures in one intellectual property litigation, and another case in which he successfully monetized one client’s patent to obtain eight figures in royalty payments. In still another case, he obtained a multimillion dollar judgment and an injunction against further patent infringement after a full trial, and then successfully defended that judgment before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He also has successfully defended numerous public and privately held companies against infringement charges, obtaining dismissal or early and favorable settlements on several occasions after prevailing on critical pre-trial motions.
In addition to litigating intellectual property cases, Jeff performs intellectual property due diligence in transactional matters, and assists clients in devising their intellectual property strategies, from building their own patent portfolios, to monetizing and licensing their intellectual property, and steering clear of infringement claims of others. Jeff holds an MSEE degree in Signal Processing and Communications Theory, and has in depth expertise in several technologies, including electronics, software, signal processing, VoIP, and e-commerce.
Prior to co-founding Kaplan Breyer Schwarz, LLP in May 2012, Jeff was with SorinRoyerCooper where has was a Partner of the firm and Chair of the Intellectual Property Practice. Before that, Jeff was the Co-founding Partner of a boutique law firm serving clients exclusively in patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters. Jeff has been named one of New Jersey’s Super Lawyers, a recognition limited to no more than five percent of New Jersey’s Lawyers.
